BLAT- Registration Process, Fees, Eligibility, Exam Pattern & Syllabus:

BLAT- BHU LAW ADMISSION TEST is a university level entrance examination for admission into 5- year LLB or LLM program conducted by Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. BLAT is an abilities-based test intended to test the basic perusing and logical reasoning abilities that are urgent for graduating from BHU.

BLAT- Registration Process & Fees:

  • Candidates need to register themselves online for the BLAT on the website. For registration, the candidate must first visit the BLAT official website, then click on the ‘Registration’ link. After that, they have to Enter Personal Details such as name, date of birth, Nationality, Gender, educational qualifications, address, and Contact Information, upload photograph in the prescribed format. (PEG/PNG/GIF & Maximum Size should be: 100 kb), and then have to select the course which the candidate wants to pursue.
  •  Then Click on ‘Submit’, Press on the ‘Application Form’ link, Enter Registration Number, Password and lastly, remove the fee against BLAT India Application Form.
  • Documents required for the registration process- Candidate’s photograph (It must have a clean background, preferably white, with focus on the face) & Signature & Scanned copy of all academic certificates, mark sheets of class X, XII, graduation or graduation other equivalent exams.
  • A BLAT admits card is issued to the candidate for appearing in the exam who fills and submits the application form on or before the last date as prescribed.
  • Registration Fees for BLAT examination for General/ OBC is Rs. 600 & for SC/ST it is Rs. 300.


BLAT- Eligibility:

  • For Undergraduate Law Course- The candidate who has completed 10+2 with the required score from a recognized institution is eligible for sitting for BLAT exam, 50% marks are requisite for general category, 45% for OBC & 40% for SC/ST.
  • Candidates who are of 20 years are eligible to apply for the exam.
  • For Postgraduate Law Course- The candidate must have passed with a minimum of 50% in 10th 12th board and must have an LLB Degree from a recognized Board of Education.
  • There is no maximum age limit to apply for LLM.
  • The applicant should complete HSC exams or any equivalent exam in any stream.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying and LLB Final year examinations are also eligible for BLAT UG & PG, respectively. Such candidates will be given admission if they submit the qualification certificates and documents at the time of seat allotment.
  • A candidate is not eligible for admission. They have passed the 10+2 exam or obtained Graduation/Post-graduation from the Open University system.

Exam Pattern:

  • Exam to be conducted in offline/ online mode.
  • The duration of the BLAT exam is 2 hours/ 120minutes.
  • Exam to be conducted in the English language.
  • Questions come in a Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) format.
  • A number of questions are 150, for which the score-band is 450 marks.
  • The paper contains 4 sections that are-

For UG

  1. General Awareness & Current Affairs
  2. Legal Aptitude
  3. Mental Ability
  4. English Comprehension

For PG

  1. Jurisprudence
  2. Law of Contract
  3. Constitutional Law
  4. Law of Torts
  5. Law of Crimes
  6. Public International Law
  • Each question contains 3 marks and 1 mark to be deducted for every wrong answer.



  1. GENERAL AWARENESS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS- This section requires the candidate’s awareness of current affairs, art and culture and other international matters.
  2. LEGAL APTITUDE- This section contains questions from various areas such as Law of Torts, Strict Liability, Vicarious Liability, Legal Maxims, Law of Crimes, Constitutional Law, etc., to test the ability of candidate that how much he is aware of legal Subjects and issues.
  • MENTAL ABILITY- This section contains questions from statement & Assumptions, Assertion & Reason, Direction & Distance Test, Number Test, Statement & Conclusion, Blood Relationships, Analogy Statements & Arguments, Coding & Decoding, Deductive Reasoning etc. This section aims to test a competitor’s capacity to utilize basic deduction in assessing, investigating, and finishing contentions. 
  • ENGLISH COMPREHENSION- This section contains questions from various areas such as Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Idioms, Synonyms, Spellings, Phrases, Figures of Speech, Legal Terms etc., to test the language skills of the candidate. This section has been added.
  • For BLAT, PG Questions shall be provided as extracts from primary legal materials like court decisions in various fields of law, statutes or regulations. These questions shall demand candidates to demonstrate – 
  • Ability to read and comprehend the issues.
  • Awareness of the issues discussed in the passage.
  • Summarise the passage, and 
  • Ability to apply your knowledge of the fields of law.
